Floor preparation for your flowing concrete in York, Leeds, Hull, Beverley, Scunthorpe & Doncaster
In preparation for your flowing concrete, the area to be concreted must be tanked out to contain the liquid concrete and allow for expansion of the material.
Preparing your floor for a liquid concrete
If applicable, when installing the insulation, make sure any gaps around wall edges, doorways and upstands are filled with a suitable material, such as expandable foam or rock wool. This is to avoid the concrete from going under the insulation, causing it to float up.
Install a perimeter expansion strip tight to all walls and upstands within the are to be concreted
Overlay the existing floor with a suitable membrane. This should be laid up the walls approximately 50-100mm above the expected concrete level. Secure the membrane so it doesn’t flap over into the concrete when it is laid.
Ensure the area to be concreted is free from contamination as this may float to the surface of the screed when laid
Never use foil backed tape as it causes a reaction with the concrete
Tape any holes within the membrane to avoid the concrete leaking
